2009 Exhibit Materials Sought
We are developing four (4) major exhibits for 2009 and need to know if you have any photos, documents or artifacts that you would be willing to loan to the PHC for these exhibits. All such borrowed or donated materials will be acknowledged in the exhibit.
Examples of the types of items sought are:
African missionary photos, letters, artifacts
Early cottager pictures, letters, deed copies, etc.
Brazilian missionary photos, letters, artifacts
Donations of Artifacts & Books
We are collecting books, documents and artifacts that further our educational outreach and research mission.
Before sending us anything, please contact us by email or by writing to us (at the address below) to describe the potential item, and we will get back to you.
Exhibits 2008
Exhibits for 2008 are:
- The Great Korean Revival of 1907, the origins of the Korean Mission, Great Revivals and Korean Presbyterians today! (May 24 - march 2009)
Special events included presentation by Dr. Samuel H. Moffett (June 11th), as well as former moderator Rev. Dr. Syngman Rhee (October 11).
- Celebrating 100 Years of Presbyterians in Montreat, a look at the Montreat Conference Center conferences, Historical Foundation, and social aspect of the community. (May 24, 2008 - April 15, 2009)
Special events included Show-and-Tell coffees during June.
- Presbyterians in Appalachia, a look at the evangelical, educational and medical missions of the Presbyterians from beginnings to Cherokees in the early 1800s to Melungeons and Mountaineers in the late 19th and 20th centuries. (July 4, 2008 - April 15, 2009)
Special events included lectures (July 13) and Shape Note Singing (July 23) and special limited exhibit of Shape Note Hymn Books (July).
- Women Leaders in the Presbyterian Church around the World, an exhibit highlighting outstanding women and their contributions to the Presbyterian church both at home and in foreign missions. (July 22, 2009 - June 15, 2009)

Exhibits planned for 2009
Planning has started on exhibits, live performances and other activities for 2009. We appreciate your interest and any comments.
The exhibits for next summer (click where unlined for more information) are:
- No Turning Back: Presbyterian African Missions: Cameroon, Congo and Sudan, a look at mission history to Africa by the PC(USA), PC(US) and UP denominations from the 19th to the 21st centuries.
(April 20, 2009- Jan. 15, 2010)
- Private Land in a Public Place (Montreat from 1897 - 1929), a look at cottagers, lots and land management in the early years of Montreat. (May 23, 2009 - April 15, 2010)
- 500th Anniversary of John Calvin, a exhibit on the half-millenium recognition of the birth of Reformer John Calvin, his proteges such as John Knox, and the Reformation history. This exhibit coordinates with international celebrations and a special North America conference on John Calvin in Montreat during July 2009. (July 4, 2009 - June 15, 2010)
- 150 years of the Presbyterian Mission to Brazil. (August 1, 2009 - March 15, 2010)
Onsite exhibits in Montreat will also have a virtual exhibit on this web site. These online exhibits will cover the primary aspects of limited-time displays at the Presbyterian Heritage Center, as well as provide ongoing online access to such displays in the future.
