Wade burns will present on demonstrations of faith and grace related to the exhibit of Union Presbyterian Seminary’s Civil Rights Collection of Wade and Susie Burns at the PHC through the end of July.
From Wade Burns: “I am a witness to the faith and grace of John Lewis and the disciples of Martin Luther King, Jr. I moved into their Atlanta neighborhood in 1969 when they were no longer in the headline news, but the cities afire were.
“These preachers and saints were taught from the “Black Bible” of slave and Jim Crow times that Jesus’ words to “turn the other cheek” and ultimately, his prayer “Forgive them, Lord,” came to be understood as a gift from Jesus:
“Forgive the unrepentant who would harm you and trust judgment to God, so that you might heal from your wounds without the shackles and poison of bitterness.
“For all the years and with those I have known, I witnessed them live out that Gospel and at times only I was there.”
